U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., will be joined at a Milwaukee rally June 9 by U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif.

U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee, also will be featured at the 1:30 p.m. rally at the Italian Community Center, 631 E. Chicago St.

Baldwin, who is running for re-election, has made engaging Milwaukee voters a top priority. She opened a Milwaukee campaign office earlier this year to organize and turn out the vote in the city.

In May, at an event in the Sherman Park neighborhood, she opened up about her late mother's struggle with addiction.

Her campaign said Baldwin has worked with Harris on health care, striving to make care more affordable and "hold Big Pharma accountable."

The senators also have worked together on closing the skills gap to create more good-paying jobs, according to the campaign.

Like Baldwin, Harris is a barrier-breaking, progressive politician. Harris is the first African-American and first woman to serve as California attorney general and the second African-American woman to serve in the U.S. Senate. As attorney general, she won more than $20 billion for homeowners affected by the foreclosure crisis and challenged special interests.

The rally, according to an advisory from the Baldwin campaign, is to show "powerful special interests that Wisconsin's U.S. Senate seat can't be bought."

Special interests and conservative political action groups already have spent nearly $10 million on ads attacking Baldwin, whose GOP opponent won't be decided until August.
