Singer songwriter Alice Glass announced via her Twitter account that she won her court case involving a defamation lawsuit filed by her ex-bandmate Ethan Kath .

“This is a victory for survivors of abuse and sexual misconduct in countries where abusers use the court system to further victimize and keep silent,” Glass tweeted. “WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.”

Glass and Kath made up the duo known as Crystal Castles, a Canadian electronic music group. Formed in 2006, Crystal Castles went on to release four studio albums, their latest being released in 2016. The band garnered much popularity as an underground electronic act and would eventually breach the Billboard Top 200 and receive worldwide critical acclaim for their later works.

Glass announced in October 2014 that she would be leaving Crystal Castles. Three years later, she revealed on her website her reasoning for leaving.

In her statement, she details the ways in which Kath took advantage of her. The first incident dates back to when Glass was only 15 years old and Kath was 25.

“Leaving Crystal Castles was the single most difficult decision I’ve ever made — that band was everything to me,” Glass said in her statement. “It has taken me years to recover from enduring almost a decade of abuse, manipulation and psychological control. I am still recovering.”

After the statement was posted to her website, Kath sued Glass for defamation over the allegations, claiming that he lost money, touring opportunities and business partnerships due to the allegations against him.

In response to the court case and with support from the #metoo movement, anonymous women came forward with their own stories of instances when Kath had sexually assaulted them.

According to Pitchfork, the Los Angeles Superior Court confirmed that Glass’ motion to strike was granted and that the defamation suit had been dismissed.“All the women who have found the courage to come forward are inspiring,” Glass said in an interview with Interview Magazine. “I really wanted to be a part of that conversation. Abuse lives in silence, and I don’t want to be part of that silence anymore.”
