Novibet is a relative newcomer to the online betting market. The company began in Greece in 2010 and, despite expanding into both the British and German markets, Novibet is still a bit away from being a global player. That said, there is plenty to admire about a self-starter, especially when it has clearly devoted some serious thought to creating a user-friendly website and provides some attractive and interesting offers and promos.
Novibet is showing signs of offering competitive odds, at least for big events – lookout for the ‘Super Odds’ tag as you browse the website. Novibet website is accessible at www.novibet.co.uk – also scores highly for the abundance of customer service options, with advisors available via live chat, Skype, Facebook, phone and email.
There really isn’t much room for innovation when designing a betting site – but Novibet has done a top class job at creating a fresh look. It’s down to the details. The left-hand sidebar in Novibet website, traditionally home to a long list of sports on the book, is shrunk to a column of pictograms – a football, a horse, boxing gloves, you’ll get the picture.
That design decision frees up more space, and Novibet uses it to give more coverage to big upcoming events (or significant in-play action), plus promos. It makes for a colourful and information display and creates an appealing environment, although some might find it a little overwhelming at first glance.
But what of the nitty-gritty? All the important info – your account balance, management tools and control over key settings – can be easily found at the top of the page of the Novibet website. That makes it easy to switch between, for example, decimal and fractional odds and would give a simple swap between languages if the novibet.co.uk site did not function exclusively in English.
The bet slip is small but perfectly formed, making it easy to get on your flutter of choice. That’s something that Novibet talks up in its press releases – the company wants to provide online betting for gamblers who are not used to online betting.
Most of the usual suspects can be found at Novibet, with a wide sportsbook line– pre-game and in-play – plus assorted casino options. One novelty IN Novibet is the ‘NoviLadies’ section, casino action intended to appeal to the fairer sex. It’s not immediately clear how big of a difference there is between this and a regular casino.
Novibet does lack a few things – there’s no poker and no lotto – but for the committed sports punter that probably isn’t much of an issue. There are markets on more than 20 sports here, which is by no means the most comprehensive selection but is, surely, more than enough to cover the essentials. Odds tend to be quite good. It’s not unusual to see Novibet among the top prices on big football matches, for example, with Spain vs Germany game on Nov. 17 seeing Novibet offer a best available price of 2.47 about a Spanish win or 3.75 on the draw.
Meanwhile, on the ATP Tour Masters tennis match between Tsitsipas and Rublev, Novibet went 1.84 vs 2.17, offering the longest widely available price about the outsider, Rublev, and the second-best mark for the favourite, Tsitsipas. The same game was the subject of a welcome offer promising enhanced 20/1 odds for either player.
Clearly, then, for a dedicated hunter of value odds, Novibet is worthy of serious consideration. When looking at the live markets, there are lots of choices. Though there are no streams on offer – unusual from a major bookmaker – and the stat displays can be lacking. For example, in the U21 international between Poland and Northern Ireland, the Poles had apparently opened a 3-0 lead in a game where neither team managed an attempt on goal. Indeed, both teams enjoyed 0% possession in the first 78 minutes of action. Even at a game where possession stats were available, it appeared that Hull City had scored two goals from one attempt against Grimsby Town – even more impressive when neither side had supposedly recorded a shot on target. Novibet might be a good place to bet on a game, but I’d suggest there are others that will help you follow proceedings more effectively.
Novibet mobile betting is also possible: the Novibet apps are available for Android and iOS.
It’s a company with Greek origins, and classical scholars will be aware of tales about Greeks bearing gifts. Are Novibet’s offer good value, or something of a Trojan horse?
Novibet has a standard welcome offer, offering a £10 free bet to new customers after they’ve staked £20 or more at odds of 1.7 or higher. However, the company also likes to offer enhanced odds bonus for new customers. For example, during the ATP Tour Finals tournament in London in mid-November 2020, customers could get odds of 20/1 about either player winning the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrei Rublev. Given that most bookies priced them at around 4/5 or evens respectively, that’s a big price boost. There are limitations: the maximum stake at the enhanced price is just £1 and punters have to deposit at least £10 with Novibet to qualify. Plus, of course, if your pick loses, you get nothing in return. However, it is possible to use this offer in conjunction with an account at a different bookie to get a guaranteed win.
That’s not the end of the freebies. The weekly Novibet club offers a free bet worth £10 if you have 10 or more £10 punts at odds of 1.7 or more in any given week. This isn’t a bad offer, but it’s worth noting that Paddy Power offers a similar bet club that gives the same rewards for 5x£10 bets at 1.5 or more. Keep an eye out for bonuses about big games – at the time of writing, Novibet is pushing a ‘bet £30, get £10 offer on the England vs Iceland football match on Wednesday evening. Familiar features like insurance on the horses, acca boosts and cashouts are all present and correct, and there’s a bit of reassurance when betting in-play on the football. For selected markets, Novibet will refund losing bets if the coupon-wrecking goal was scored after the 88th minute (bets must be placed in-play before 70 minutes of the game have elapsed).
Casino fans needn’t miss out at Novibet. There is a 100% welcome bonus on initial deposits up to £100, plus a loyalty programme and a VIP club that promises up to £4,000 each month.
Novibet has a live chat service. When I wanted to check on the progress of my account verification, I opened this and was informed that I was 15th in the queue. The numbers kept counting down, so I felt that I was informed about how I was progressing even if there was a grammatical error in the holding message. However, it took nearly 20 minutes before anyone was available to speak with me. Once I was able to talk with someone, the question was answered quickly. However, it was something that could – perhaps should – have been explained during the sign-up process.
That’s not the end of the Novibet customer support service, although it may be the most reliable. Instant messaging is also available via Facebook Messenger or Skype, there is a paid telephone number (0141 280 5221) and a callback option available. Plus there is an email connection – often good when disputes need a paper trail to help resolve them – and an option to leave a message via the website itself. The one thing missing, though, is any kind of FAQ to provide background info about Novibet and its services.
Most of the process was standard but, for the first time, I was asked to supply additional documents to verify my identity as part of the ‘Know Your Customer’ scheme. This meant submitting a scan of my passport, a recent bank statement and both sides of my preferred payment card. Once the necessary scans had been submitted, it took about 10 minutes to verify my details and give me full access to the site – the process is not difficult, but fiddly. And, with more and more of our interactions with banks and utility companies taking place online, it’s no longer a simple matter to produce a recent bank statement or electricity bill.
It is unclear whether every new customer has to go through this process, or whether my application was merely unlucky. While most bookmakers reserve the right to apply these checks, Novibet was the first to actually do so with me.
There are eight different deposit methods supported at Novibet.co.uk. Bank cards are the most popular, but it’s also possible to use several online payment systems to fund your Novibet account. These include Trustly, Paypal, Skrill, Skrill 1-Tap, Neteller, Rapid and paysafecard. The minimum deposit is £10, except on paysafecard where you can deposit £5. The maximum deposit is usually £10,000, but some methods have tighter limits of £5,000 or even £1,000. It’s possible to operate accounts with Novibet in sterling, Euros or Australian dollars, although availability may be affected by where you are based.
Novibet only permits withdrawals to the same card or payment system with which you deposited. The minimum possible withdrawal is £10 (precise amounts vary depending on your chosen system) and maximums are capped at various levels from £4,000 (bank cards) to no limits (bank transfer). Props to any punter who needs to avail of unlimited withdrawals.
What about the betting limits? Novibet’s minimum stake is 10p, which is in line with much of the industry. The maximum win is a relatively low £80,000, though. For the casual punter, that’s more than enough – I’d love to trouser 80 grand from a bet, personally – but a professional gambler might feel that these levels are too low to make Novibet more than a back-up account.
Reliability and security
Novibet’s UK operations are carried out from the Isle of Man, where the headquarter of the company is. Novibet UK is licenced through Novigroup Limited by the British Gambling Commission. The company is also registered with IBAS (Independent Betting Adjudication Service) and its gaming software is tested by Gaming Laboratories International to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Novibet also meets all European regulations around data protection and promises that its data security procedures go beyond minimum e-gaming standards.
A quick search of the internet failed to uncover any evidence of controversy affecting Novibet, which suggests that the company does a good job of delivering on its promises.
Overall, Novibet probably deserves a better reputation than it currently enjoys. The Novibet website has a distinctive feel but remains easy to navigate, and the odds on offer are generally competitive for the big events. The Novibet bonus programme has some potential but might benefit from a tweak or two to make it more generous (bet £30, get £10 isn’t the best ratio on the market, and 10 wagers to secure a free bet is quite an onerous loyalty scheme). However, the main weakness comes in the live markets. It’s not the lack of betting opportunities that causes trouble, it’s the lack of streams and the variable quality of the in-play stats that let the service down. Overall, Novibet is a good option but unlikely to be anyone’s number one choice.
Novibet operates only in English, German and Greek.
