We Are Water

Milwaukee Water Commons holds its fourth annual beachfront celebration of Milwaukee’s water, “We Are Water: The Great Lakes are our Home,” August 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the north end of Bradford Beach.

Artist in Residence Melanie Ariens will lead attendees in a participatory art installation, to be illuminated at dusk. The free, family-friendly event also features music, drumming, art and storytelling.

Last year’s event drew more than 300 people from all areas of the city. “It is a rare thing for most Milwaukeeans to take part in such a hopeful and uplifting event with folks from every corner of our city,” said Brenda Coley, co-executive director.

“Milwaukee Water Commons believes everyone, in every part of our city, has a vital role to play in this effort, and we believe all of us should share in our water’s care and benefits,” said Ann Brummitt, co-executive director. “’We Are Water’ helps galvanize our community, so we can take the actions that will make Milwaukee a model water city.”
