UPAF Rides

Brewers manager Craig Counsell and his family.

The Brewers have stepped up to the plate for this year’s UPAF Ride for the Arts. The ride takes off on June 3 from the Summerfest grounds.

The Brewers Community Foundation will once again sponsor the 5-Mile Youth Route, and the team has included an extra donation that will enable kids 12 and under (with a paying adult) to ride any of the routes for free. Brewers manager Craig Counsell and his family will serve as honorary co-chairs and appear in the Ride’s television commercial, produced by media Sponsor WISN-12 and radio spots.

“This annual tradition started almost 40 years ago with Bob Uecker as the chair, so it’s great to carry on that tradition,” Counsell says. “The ride has been a terrific way for the Brewers to support the vibrancy of our local performing arts scene, while at the same time recognizing the huge impact arts education and participation has on young people in our community.”

The Ride for the Arts is Wisconsin’s largest recreational bike ride and raises money for Milwaukee area performing arts groups. This year’s ride will have five routes of varying lengths: the 5 and 12 (sponsored by Irgens), the 25 or “Own the Hoan” (sponsored by Husch Blackwell), the 45 (sponsored by Interstate Parking) and the 70 mile (sponsored by Allen Edmonds).

In addition to Miller Lite, other sponsors include: Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Sargento, PricewaterhouseCoopers “PwC”, Briggs and Stratton, Aurora Health Care, Eppstein Uhen, West Bend Mutual, Wheel and Sprocket, ManpowerGroup, Green Bay Packers Give Back and Wisconsin Veterans Network.

The United Performing Arts Fund aims to secure community resources, promote the performing arts as a regional asset, and improve the quality of life through responsible investment in and financial support of the performing arts in Southeastern Wisconsin. Last year’s fundraiser raised more than $12.32 million. UPAF proudly bears Charity Navigator’s highest distinction for nonprofits.
