Facebook co-founder's new status: married
Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes married boyfriend Sean Eldridge on June 30 in New York.
Meanwhile, Facebook is offering new icons for married gay and lesbian users of the social networking site.
The New York Times, reporting on the Hughes-Eldridge wedding, said the couple married at home in Garrison, N.Y., with retired village justice William J. Corbett officiating.
Eldridge is the founder of Protect Our Democracy, a group working for campaign finance reform. He was the political director for the New York-based Freedom to Marry.
Hughes is the editor in chief and publisher of The New Republic. In addition to co-founding Facebook, he organized Barack Obama’s 2008 online campaign.
Over the weekend, at the company Hughes created with Harvard University roommates Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz and Eduardo Saverin, a new feature debuted. Users who indicate on their Facebook timeline that they are married are recognized with a same-sex couple icon rather than a male-female couple icon.
