These two sides have different objectives in League One this season with Walsall looking to push for an unlikely play-off place whilst Oldham are simply looking to stay up.

Walsall are currently on a bit of an inconsistent run at the moment with just one win in their last four league matches which now means they are nine points off the play-off places. With a fair number of teams above them looking in much better shape, The Saddlers will more than likely be in League One again next season.

Although they look to play attractive football, goals have been a problem for Jon Whitney’s men this season with just 41 scored in 34 matches and just two in their last three games. Their defensive record is respectable and they have kept two clean sheets in their last three, however, the fact they do not score enough means this becomes a bit irrelevant.

Despite all the negatives above, home form has been fantastic for Walsall in recent weeks with four wins on the bounce, scoring 11 goals in the process. The Saddlers have taken 28 points from 16 games at Bescot Stadium this season.

Oldham have had an impressive revival of late with no defeats in their last five matches which has pushed them out of the relegation zone.

Latics still have big problems going forward and are League One’s lowest scorers with just 23 scored in 35 games. However, they are able to rely on a very solid defence which has kept the second-most clean sheets in the league and let in just 34 goals so far this campaign.

John Sheridan’s side picked up a priceless away win last time out (and scored two goals in the process) but before then they had only tasted victory once in seven league games. Having said that, they may be confident going into this match at Walsall as they won at the Bank’s Stadium in the EFL Trophy back in December.

Although Oldham are having a revival at the moment, Walsall’s excellent home form of late should hold them in good stead here. Although the visitors are a decent defensive unit, they don’t score enough goals and Walsall’s superior forward quality can see them through here.
