Walsall – Barnsley. Thomas Giles prediction
For once Walsall let me down last time out as they were thrashed 3-0 by Barnsley. This of course means the Yorkshire side will almost be certainly going to the playoff final at Wembley.
It really is all-or-nothing for the Saddlers so they most go and attack straight from the off in order to score an early goal which would at least give themselves a chance of getting through. Jon Whitney’s men are in a completely unpressurised situation as they really have nothing to lose.
Barnsley, who on the other hand have everything to lose, must be careful not to get caught in the trap of sitting on their 3-0 lead. Walsall are one of the best footballing sides in the division so if the Tykes do decide to contain, the Saddlers will break them down.
While Walsall’s efforts may all be in vain, I would not count them out just yet. It is hard to find any value in just a simple Walsall win for this match (the bookies have clocked on!) so I have gone for Walsall to win and Tom Bradshaw to score first. The Welshman is the focal point of the Saddlers’ attack and, with many chances likely to be created early on tonight, I can see him finding the back of the net before anybody else.
