Ukraine v Poland: Thomas Giles’ betting tip
Ukraine currently find themselves bottom of the group after a shock defeat to Northern Ireland in match day two. Losing their first two matches mean that they were the only team knocked out of the tournament before the final round of group matches had begun.
Poland are many people’s dark horse for the tournament and they have started the tournament steadily and will look to hit peak form later in the tournament – something that their recent opponents Germany have mastered. Robert Lewandowski is clearly Poland’s best player, however, his fellow striker Arkadiusz Milik has started the tournament well – one to watch throughout the Euros.
That recent match against the Germans finished 0-0 and showed the Poles as real contenders for this tournament. A victory would guarantee qualification for the last 16 but to win the group they must better Germany’s result.
The bookies make Poland as the favourites for this fixture. Although the inevitable volatile atmosphere makes picking a favourite hard, Adam Nawałka’s Poland side seem like a professional group of players who will not let the occasion get to them.
Ukraine will have lost confidence after their defeat to Northern Ireland and they will likely struggle to bounce back against this good Poland side. There is no value in backing Poland for a straight win so it is a matter of looking at goalscorers. Milik to score anytime instead of Lewandowski gives better value alongside a Polish win at 5/2.
