Tottenham are on a good run at the moment with no defeats in their last five in all competitions whilst they have also won their last two Premier League matches. Overall this places them 2nd in the table, although they are a huge ten points off Chelsea in top spot.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been excellent in both boxes this season, but particularly at the back and their record of just 20 goals against in 27 matches is the joint-best in the Premier League. Additionally, they have kept clean sheets in 44% of their games so far this campaign. They are very good going forward but with Harry Kane now missing for a while through injury, who knows where the goals will come from?

Spurs have also been fantastic at home in the league and have the best points tally from home games in the league with 38 from 14. They have not lost a top flight match at White Hart Lane this season, in fact their last loss came at home to Southampton last season, and have won their last nine – conceding just five and keeping six clean sheets. Their overall home clean sheet record of 64% is the best in the league.

Many people were calling for Southampton manager Claude Puel’s head a few weeks ago after a run of four straight Premier League losses. However, in the last couple of matches they have found a new lease of life, winning both of them, putting them inside the top ten.

Like Tottenham, the Saints have been solid at the back this campaign and they have kept clean sheets in 35% of their league games. Their Goals Against record of 34 is also highly respectable and betters Champions League chasers Liverpool. Unfortunately for them though, unlike Spurs, Southampton do not pack much of a punch in the final third with just 32 goals in 26 games. Having said that, the fact they have scored four in their latest two wins shows they do have the ability to find the back of the net.

The two aforementioned victories for Southampton have both come on their travels but you still have to say that their points haul of just 15 in 14 games away from St Mary’s Stadium is not good. Furthermore, before those last two victories, the Saints had scored just 11 goals on the road in the league.

Although Southampton have recovered a bit recently, Tottenham are clearly the better side and should be able to come out on top – even without Harry Kane. Without Kane, Tottenham will not score as many goals as usual whilst Southampton are not the greatest goalscorers anyway. With this in mind, ‘Tottenham to Win & Under 4.5 Goals’ is fantastic bet at Evens.
