The Premier League’s top two go head-to-head on Sunday in an early season title clash. Whilst Man City are the undoubtedly the favourites for the championship, Spurs will feel they can challenge under the radar.

Spurs are going well in the Premier League and are still unbeaten after six matches, winning their last three. Going forward they have so far failed to spark as they did last year but you can expect Harry Kane (a mid-season bloomer) to start banging them in sooner rather than later – when he returns from injury of course. The main reason behind Spurs’ great form at the moment has been their defence which is the best in the league having only conceded three goals.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men put in another dominant performance midweek away at CSKA Moscow as they took a 1-0 win back to London and recovered from their Wembley loss on match-day one.

Tottenham have already earned draws against fellow top sides Liverpool and Everton this season but this test against Manchester City, with their 100% league record, presents a different challenge.

Despite losing their 100% winning record in all competitions when they drew against Celtic in their midweek Champions League fixture, manager Pep Guardiola said he was pleased with the result.

Whilst their league run is of course to be admired, it must be pointed out that all bar one of those teams (Manchester Untied) are currently in the bottom five. Tottenham seem to have a lot more swagger about them rather than the in-transition United side that City faced a couple of weeks ago. Therefore, this match will be the toughest that Guardiola’s side have faced this season by a long way.

In terms of injuries both teams are missing key players with Spurs having striker Harry Kane out injured whilst there are also doubts over Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko.

Kevin De Bruyne has arguably been Man City’s best player this season and has been running the show in almost every match. Unfortunately for City, the Belgian will miss this game along with Nolito and the injury-plagued Vincent Kompany.

These injuries to key players of course make it more difficult for both sides. However, probably the best player in either squad on his day is still likely to play. Sergio Aguero is arguably the best striker in the world right now and took his two goals against Swansea well after returning from suspension. Although Tottenham’s defence is strong, nobody would begrudge you from backing Aguero on Sunday. I would advise punters to take advantage of the rare odds available on the Argentine this weekend and back him to find the net at 21/20.

With City drawing against Celtic in midweek, which we can put down to the boisterous atmosphere at Celtic Park, Guardiola’s side will be incredibly motivated to correct things as they know a win at White Hart Lane will lay down a massive marker to all of their title rivals – including Spurs.

Having said that, I am not expecting them to romp home and think it will be a tight game which they will win by just a single goal. The odds on City winning by a margin of one at 3/1 seems a very fair price.
