The Turin derby comes in an unwanted time
Relegation-threatened Torino would have preferred a different opposition at this stage of the season. Being just one point above the relegation zone, Il Toro are looking for points to take them to safety something they were not able to grab in their last three matches in the Turin derby.
Two wins in their last five games, one of them being a crucial away win to relegation challengers Cagliari, saw coach Davide Nicola’s team leave the 18th spot. Still, a lot of work needs to be done with seven matches for Torino remaining in the season.
Their last defeat 1-0 to Sampdoria was the first time they conceded one goal in their last four matches. The defense has been a problem for Nicola’s team with 50 goals scored against them in 27 matches. Coming into the Turin derby, they have to be at their best.
A disappointing season for Juve standards
Il Bianconeri entered the international break after a surprise defeat at home to Benevento which increased the gap between them and Inter Milan at the top of the Serie A table to ten points. With seven matches left for Juve to play, it seems Juve will most likely fail to win the Scudetto for the tenth consecutive time in Andrea Pirlo’s first season as a Juventus coach.
Juve were unbeaten in five matches prior to the Benevento game. It was the first time Ronaldo and co failed to score in the Serie A in six matches. Pirlo saw his team crash out of the UEFA Champions League as well and now have only the Coppa Italia as a chance of winning silverware this season.
Juventus can even miss on a UEFA Champions League spot if they are not careful. They are level on points with fourth-placed Atalanta with 55 and in fifth place, Napoli are knocking at their door with 53 points and one match less than Atalanta.
Key Points
- Torino have one win and seven draws at home this season
- Torino have scored in three of their last four home matches
- Juventus have lost two of their last five away matches
- Juventus have scored in three of their last five away games
Torino vs Juventus Prediction
A Turin derby with different ambitions for both teams. Torino to avoid relegation and Juventus to keep their Champions League spot alive after a disappointing season so far by their standards.
As we have seen through their stats both teams have been scoring in their recent games and coming into this match they have to score to get points they both need immensely. But we don’t see many scored in this one.
54% of Torino’s home matches have seen under 3.5 goals while Juventus have the same record of goals scored in their away games. The odds being 1.50 for under 3.5 goals we will back that.
