Sweden v Belgium: Thomas Giles’ betting tip

Everyone has their own dark horse team at the start of a major tournament and mine was Sweden. I envisaged them going far at Euro 2016 but they have instead been a huge disappointment. They needed to win against Ireland in their opening match for progress to happen and that draw against the Irish has seemingly cost the Swedes.

According to FIFA rankings (of course these are incredibly debatable) Belgium are considered to be the best team in Europe and only second in the world behind Argentina. The Belgians had a poor start to the tournament in their loss to Italy and many thought they had been over-hyped, however, they sent Ireland to the slaughter last time out in a 3-0 win to book their spot in the last 16.

There is no value in backing a straight Belgium whilst I also do not see Sweden troubling the Red Devils who will be looking to ensure a top two finish in Group E in order to get a better draw in the next round.

It is therefore necessary to look into other markets so I have gone with Romelu Lukaku to score anytime at 5/4. The Everton striker found the back of the net twice in Belgium’s 3-0 thrashing of Ireland and I expect him to carry on his good form against an average and slow looking Swedish defence.
