This match is between two totally contrasting Premier League sides as Champions League chasers Manchester City travel to relegation-threatened Sunderland.

After beating fellow relegation rivals Crystal Palace 4-0 a few weeks ago, it looked like Sunderland could have a revival and pull themselves towards safety. However, they failed to obtain any points from the next two matches and still find themselves bottom of the table and three points from safety.

David Moyes’ men have been dire in both boxes this season. Firstly they have scored just 24 goals in 26 league matches. 14 of these have come through Jermain Defoe which puts a lot of pressure on his shoulders. If he does not score then Sunderland have no hope, as we have seen in the last two games.

Not even a striker of Defoe’s quality can make up for the appalling defence at the Black Cats which has conceded 48 goals.

Only Crystal Palace have a worse home record than Sunderland in the Premier League with the latter having taken just 13 points from 10 matches at the Stadium of Light. They have also failed to win on home turf in any competition since 17th December 2016.

Manchester City are the opposite of Sunderland and are in fantastic form at the moment with six wins out of their last seven matches in all competitions. They are currently 11 points of Chelsea in first place so a title chase is unlikely, however, they should still make the top four with relative ease.

Pep Guardiola’s side are incredible going forward and have found the back of the net 10 times in their last two matches in all competitions. Unsurprisingly, they have one of the best goal-scoring records in the top flight and average more than two goals per game.

Defensivley though, they are still a bit dodgy and even Championship side Huddersfield Town managed to score against them in their mid-week FA Cup tie.

City are a lot better on their travels than they are at home and have the best away record in the Premier League with 27 points from 13 games. Additionally, they have scored more away goals than any other team in the league.

Man City are the obvious favourites here and with good reason. Realistically, City should tear Sunderland apart anc could really enjoy themselves going forward. Therefore, ‘Manchester City to Win & Over 3.5 Goals’, at 8/5, looks good. With City’s defence being suspect, Jermain Defoe will fancy his chances of finding the back of the net for Sunderland which would only help here.
