David Moyes has not had a successful time since leaving Everton, failing at both Manchester United and Real Sociedad. However, Sunderland now gives the Scot a job more in his comfort zone and we could see Moyes have a resurgence of his managerial career after he did so well when in charge of his Monday night opponents.

Sunderland have not had the best start to the season but will also feel they have been unlucky in games. A Jordan Pickford error, although he had a great game otherwise, meant the Black Cats let two valuable points slip whilst only a Paddy McNair own goal saw them leave Manchester City empty handed.

Another home match gives Moyes’ team a chance to take advantage of poor results for their relegation rivals this weekend but they come up against an Everton side in decent form.

The Toffees have started life well under new manager Ronald Koeman and are currently unbeaten in all competitions this season. Last season’s defence was pretty awful under Roberto Martinez but the new Dutch manager has instilled discipline into the back-line and Everton have conceded only two goals this season. Instead it is goals that have been the problem and, with Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku having lost his form, the Toffees have only scored four Premier League goals this season. Although the big man up top did score twice for Belgium last week, so could be full of renewed confidence.

With Sunderland having so many injuries, particularly at the back and in goal, this fixture against their in-form opponents could be difficult and I cannot see the Black Cats pulling anything out of the bag. The away victory is well worth a bet at odds 11/10.

However, with Moyes’ team being at home you would expect them to create chances and, with Jermain Defoe up front, they are likely to take one of those chances. In fact, Sunderland have scored in every competitive match this season. Everton are probably going to have to score two to pull off a victory at the Stadium of Light and they should be able to do it against a makeshift Sunderland back-line despite having problems of their own in front of goal.

‘Over 2.5 Goals’ is perhaps overpriced at 11/10 and is also worth a bet.

Combining the two bets above, of sorts, is also a good way to play this one. ‘Everton To Win & Both Teams To Score’ at 10/3 looks very nicely priced.
