Steaua Bucharest v Manchester City Betting Tip

Looking at these two clubs, you would not believe that Romanian side Steaua Bucharest have a richer European history than the now oil billionaire owned Manchester City.

Steaua won the European Cup back in 1986, beating Barcelona in the final, however, the Romanians have not reached the same heights since. They finished second last season after an incredible post-season playoff run (they were originally fifth) – although even this is classed as a failure by a club who have won a record 26 Liga I titles. This campaign has started well for the Bucharest side as they sit top of the league with maximum points after three matches. They also did very well to eliminate Sparta Prague, who surprised many with their good run in the Europa League last season, in the previous Champions League qualifier.

There is a huge buzz around Manchester City at the moment with Pep Guardiola arriving to take the reins at the Etihad. With the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich man in charge, City fans feel they can now finally go all the way in the competition they dream of most – the Champions League.

The club have once again splashed out in the transfer market on the likes of John Stones, Leroy Sane and Nolito to name but three.

However, that optimism and hope was dampened a bit by reality as they just about cleared the first Premier League hurdle with a 2-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday.

Despite this somewhat underwhelming result at the weekend, I would back City to nil here at 7/5 which represents great value. Guardiola will not be complacent in this match and I can see him picking a very strong line-up to ensure that this tie is dealt with in the first leg.
