Southampton and Everton to draw

Southampton have achieved impressive draws against Manchester United and Manchester City recently, as well as a 3-2 win away to Tottenham.

A few weeks ago, this would go down as an easy Saints win, however, after a win over Leeds last weekend, Everton will come into this match confident of gaining at least a point against a Southampton side who have drawn seven of 11 home matches.

Southampton’s last three Premier League draws have come by the 1-1 scoreline. Four of their seven home draws this season have also been 1-1 draws. Two out of Everton’s three away draws have also been 1-1 scores.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Southampton vs Everton

After a difficult spell just before Christmas, the pressure appears to be off at Southampton with the Saints 12 points clear from the relegation zone and sitting in tenth position.

Southampton, with 11 draws are one the Premier League’s draw specialists (only Brighton have drawn more games) while only five sides have lost less games than the Saints’ seven so far.

After a spell out injured, Che Adams has found his scoring boots again netting three in his last five matches, taking some of the pressure off his young strike partner, Armando Broja. Both are listed at 4.5 to score first or 2.15 to score at any time.

After a resounding 3-1 away defeat to Newcastle in Frank Lampard’s first game in charge of Everton, the Toffees rebounded last weekend with a 3-0 victory over Leeds.

This moved Everton five points away from the drop with games in hand over most of the sides below them.

Everton have lost six of their last seven matches away from home with one draw in between.

However, there are signs of the start of a resurgence under Lampard, which is why we believe the additions of the likes of Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli can push the Toffees on for a well fought draw with Southampton.

Mohamed Elyounoussi is doubtful after coming off injured against Man United. Jan Bednarek was replaced at half-time in that match and Valentino Livramento who has been eased back in after injury recently is a candidate to replace Bednarek.

Lampard may keep an unchanged starting line-up after Everton’s impressive win over Leeds. If so, this means van de Beek will start successive league matches for first time since December 2020. Demarai Gray might return from injury, he could either replace Alex Iwobi or be named a substitute.

The England U21 international has started five of the last six Premier League matches, also scoring three goals in this time and he is emerging as a threat either as a traditional winger or on the right side of a forward three.
