Bottom-of-the-league Shrewsbury welcome 9th place Bristol Rovers to New Meadow on Saturday afternoon as they bid to carry themselves up the table.

Things haven’t exactly gone to plan for The Shrews so far this season, although, despite being sat rock-bottom, things have improved of late and it might not be long before they’re moving towards a healthier position.

From a betting point of view, it looks as though it might just be worth taking a chance on the hosts ahead of this match. At odds of 7/4 ‘Shrewsbury Draw No Bet’ is the bet to be on.

Naturally, it can be hard to fancy a team who’re sat in 24th position, but things have definitely improved of late for Shrewsbury – improvement that could easily continue here. Having secured both a clean sheet and three points at Milwall last time out, the hosts should come into this match in good spirits. On top of this, they will also take confidence from the fact that they’ve produced some decent form on their own patch of late.

When playing at New Meadow, Shrewsbury are unbeaten in four matches (all-competitions). In addition, Paul Hurst has witnessed his side keep four consecutive clean sheets at home. It’s fair to say that Shrewsbury have carved out a solid foundation for which to build upon and they can start by getting a result against a Bristol Rovers side who’ve struggled a bit on their travels of late.

Overall, the visitors have enjoyed a fairly decent season and it’s fancied that manager Darrell Clarke will be pretty happy with his teams’ 9th place standing in League One. However, what he isn’t likely to be happy with is the manner in which his side have lost on the road of late. In their last five away from home, Rovers have won just once, losing their last three (all-competitions), conceding eight goals in doing so.

Aside from their recent travelling woes, Rovers have leaked goals pretty much all season. Having conceded a total of 37 goals, Darrell Clarke’s men have let in more than just two teams in the entire division. Not exactly a stat you want your side to be the owners of.

Right now looks as though it could be a good time to play Rovers and if Shrewsbury are capable of playing with anything like the defensive nous that they have recently, then it would be no surprise if they were to catch out a visiting team who seemingly can’t stop conceding on the road.
