São Paulo returns to the field for the Campeonato Paulista on Saturday night, defending its unbeaten record, but seeking to win again.

São Paulo

The team started its journey in the 2024 season very well, when at home, in coach Tiago Carpini’s debut, they beat Santo André by the score of 3-1.

A very dynamic game, from the beginning of the match, and in the first half the score was built. It started with a penalty goal, by Lucas Moura in the 7th minute. Shortly before the break, they scored 2 more times, with Luciano and Diego Costa.

On that occasion, São Paulo had 64% possession of the ball, 21 shots and 6 directly at Santo André’s goal.

It’s a team that has players who can provide this more dynamic game and, without a doubt, São Paulo is one of the good teams to watch this season.

In the second round, however, the team was unable to beat Mirassol and ended the match with a score of 1-1.

It was still a very purposeful team, it surpassed 60% in ball possession, with 13 shots compared to just 3 from the home team.

But they were at a disadvantage at the end of the first half and sought a penalty before the break to tie the match, which was converted.

Returning now to playing at home, São Paulo is expected again with its starting team, a very dynamic game, high capacity for possession of the ball and very voluminous in the offensive aspect.

Portuguesa

Their opponent will be the Portuguesa team, who started their campaign at Paulista this year very well by beating Internacional de Limeira away from home.

Score 3-2 for Lusa, who had a great offensive volume reaching 22 shots, against 10 from the home team.

The team was losing 2-1 until the 84th minute of the game, when Eduardo Diniz tied the match and in the 95th minute, with a penalty, Giovanni Augusto closed the score.

But we cannot expect them to be a team with a high offensive volume in all matches and the tendency is that against São Paulo, they will play with lower lines.

The team returned to its reality when it made its debut at home and against another team from the first division of the Brazilian Championship.

Against Red Bull Bragantino, they lost 2-1, conceding 2 goals in the first half, through Nathan Mendes and Eduardo, from the penalty spot. Portuguesa still found a goal with Henrique Dourado, also from a penalty, in the final stretch of the match.

It was a game where they needed to have offensive volume, they had 17 shots and 10 on goal, but after losing just 10 minutes into the game, they had no other alternative.

Against São Paulo this will not be a reality, the tricolor will certainly be dominant in the actions of this confrontation, lots of ball possession, as has been a characteristic of their new coach.

Conclusion:

São Paulo’s odds are very low for this Saturday, however, the handicap line seems like an interesting option to me, given the volume of offensive actions they have shown in their games.
