Saturday’s late Championship kick-off is a Yorkshire derby between Rotherham United and Leeds. These two teams are having vastly different seasons with Rotherham cut adrift at the bottom whilst Leeds are pushing for the play-offs.

Never say never but it looks highly unlikely that Rotherham United will survive this season with The Millers currently at the foot of the Championship and a huge 11 points from safety. The season started dreadfully under former manager Alan Stubbs and has remained the same under new boss Kenny Jackett.

Rotherham have won just once all season and have lost all but one of their last ten matches. Jackett’s side are not terrible going forward and indeed have scored more goals (17) than some teams in the lower-mid table area. However, theor defence is woeful with 41 goals already conceded in just 17 matches and just the one clean sheet which came way back in August. They were in a perilous situation last season until seasoned manager Neil Warnock came in and saved the day, however, with Warnock now at Cardiff and no other managers of that type available, Rotherham may as well start looking towards next season and a campaign in League One.

This story is in contrast to Yorkshire neighbours Leeds United who, after an awful start are now seventh and just one point off the play-off places. The Whites had been on a four match winning streak prior to their loss to top-of-the-table Newcastle United which has seen them push up the table. One player who has really impressed is academy graduate Kalvin Phillips who was rewarded with the Championship’s October Young Player of the Month award.

Garry Monk’s side will be fairly confident going into this match away against Rotherham but will be aware that their record on the road is not great with two losses in their last five matches away from Elland Road, although it must be said they have won the other three!

Leeds probably do not score enough goals for the manager’s liking but they do have a good solid base at the back with just 19 goals conceded – bettering two of the sides in the top six.

Overall I cannot see passed a Leeds win here. Rotherham look pretty hopeless and dis-organised whilst Leeds look very well set up and, perhaps more importantly, they look confident. With this in mind, I am absolutely amazed that the odds on a Leeds victory at the New York Stadium are as good as Evens and would urge punters to snap the bookies hands off to obtain that price.

‘Leeds United to Win to Nil’, is another excellent looking bet, at another ridiculous price of 5/2. As previously mentioned, Leeds will be high on confidence and I cannot see an inept Rotherham side causing them any problems. Perhaps The Whites’ away record is slightly concerning but it is worth noting that they have won three away matches by a ‘to nil’ scoreline this season and this could so easily become four on Saturday evening.

The last bet to go for here is ‘Leeds to Win by Two Goals or More’ at 9/4 – again outstandingly good odds for punters. Leeds may not be the best going forward but they do have quality in the final third – most notably New Zealand striker Chris Wood who has scored eight goals in 17 appearances this season – but they should no doubt be hitting the net a few times against what is statistically the worst defence in the entire Football League pyramid. On this basis, it’s hard to think that winning by two or more is beyond the visitors and thus the chance to more than treble your money here is irresistible.
