When the draw was made for the last-16 of the Europa League, this clash was one of the more mouth-watering ones and the first leg certainly lived up to it as Lyon came out on top in a six-goal thriller.

Roma were 2-1 up at half time in the first-leg and will really feel they should have closed the game out, however, they are now in a real fight and require two goals without reply if they hope to go through. The 4-2 loss had made it three losses on the bounce for Roma but they managed to kick-start again at the weekend with a 3-0 win away at Palermo, putting them back up to 2nd in Serie A.

As you would expect from a team near the top of the league, Luciano Spalletti’s side have been very good in both boxes over the course of the campaign with 61 scored and just 25 conceded in 28 league games. Despite their run of defeats, Roma have scored in each of their last three games, having said that, they have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven – and even that was against a team struggling at the bottom of the league.

The Yellow and Reds have one of the best home records in the Italian league and had won every single one of their domestic games at Stadio Olimpico until recently but that run was ended by Napoli at the start of the month. This means that Roma have now lost their last two games on home soil in all competitions after losing to Villarreal in the Europa League in late-February. Wheels falling off?

Lyon performed brilliantly in the second half of the first leg of this tie to come from 2-1 down to win 4-2, however, with two away goals against them, they need to make sure they get the job done here. Les Gones managed to score another four goals at the weekend as they dispatched Toulouse 4-0 in Ligue 1.

As you can tell by these recent score-lines, Bruno Genesio’s men are very good going forward and they are the second-highest goalscorers in Ligue 1 with 59 in 28 matches – more than Paris Saint-Germain. Additionally, they have registered on the score-sheet in each of their last nine matches in all competitions. However, at the back they are questionable with only the fifth-best defensive record in Ligue 1 and just one clean sheet in their last three in all competitions.

Les Gones of course only need to not lose to secure their passage into the quarter finals, however, this could be problematic given their away form which has seen them win once, and lose four, of their last six matches on their travels. Furthermore, they have not kept a clean sheet on the road since 30th November 2016.

I am not sure who will qualify here but the pressure is really on Roma to go for it and, with the quality in their squad. it’s not hard to see them winning. Having said that, Lyon are fantastic going forward which makes involving ‘Both Teams to Score’ to a Roma win, hard to resist. ‘AS Roma to Win & Both Teams to Score’ is the bet to go for.
