Second from bottom takes on second from top in one of Saturday’s Scottish Premiership matches.

Rangers are on a great run of form at the moment having won five of their last six matches, putting them seven points ahead of third placed Aberdeen. Whilst they are unlikely to challenge Glasgow rivals Celtic for the title this season, a European spot would be a great achievement for the newly-promoted side – something easily forgotten given the club’s stature.

Goals have not been Mark Warburton’s team’s speciality this season with just the 25 goals in 18 matches – the lowest in the top three but defensively they have been pretty solid and, although they have conceded an average of one goal per match, they do have five clean sheets to their name this season.

The Gers have been terrific at home for a long time and have not lost a regular season league match at Ibrox since February 2015 – a record they will most likely extend on Saturday.

Highland side Inverness Caledonian Thistle have been having a bit of a nightmare in the last few weeks and are without a win since 26th October. To add to their misery, Richie Foran’s side recently lost four matches on the spin, however, having picked up draws in their last two matches, perhaps there are signs of recovery there.

Caley Thistle have scored a reasonable number of goals (23) but have been terrible at the back with 34 conceded in just 18 matches – an average of more than 1.8 per match. If you cannot defend against what are, quite frankly, mediocre front-lines you do not stand much of a chance of winning matches.

Towards the end of last season, Inverness were excellent on the road and won their last five league matches away from Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. However, they have been the opposite this season and have claimed victory in just one match on their travels, losing five out of nine.

A Rangers win is fairly obvious here, but unfortunately there’s not much from for maneuver. However, fear not because there are definitely betting opportunities to exploit here. I would certainly look at the goals market, given Inverness’s terrible defensive record, where ‘Rangers to Win & Over 2.5’, at a surprisingly good 6/5, is one bet to go for.

If you want something with more return then, sticking with the goals theme, I would recommend ‘Rangers to Score Over 2.5 Goals’ at 2/1. Although Rangers do not score many in general, I expect them to score a few here and they will have plenty of chances to score against a Caley Thistle side who have conceded an astonishing eight goals against what you would call ‘big teams’ in the division in just two matches (Hearts and Celtic).
