Plymouth Argyle v Newport County Betting Tip

This Checkatrade Trophy match is an all League Two clash. Plymouth have started the campaign well and are hunting in and around the playoffs whilst Welsh side Newport County find themselves towards the bottom in 18th.

Plymouth lost last season’s playoff final to Wimbledon, however, that seems to have simply motivated them even more to get back into League One. The Pilgrims are currently on a three match winning streak after losing their opening two fixtures. Additionally, they have not conceded in their last two matches.

Newport County were lucky not to be relegated from the Football League last season after finishing 22nd out of 24 teams. They have to thank the fact that only two teams rather than three are sent down in League Two.

Unlike last season’s relegation rivals Morecambe, who currently sit top of League Two, Newport have failed to move forward and have only won once in the league this season. However, results have picked up a bit recently as they managed to earn draws against Hartlepool United and Crewe Alexandra.

The problem has been in defence as Warren Feeney’s side have been leaking goals like a sieve. On the other hand, they have been terrific up front and have scored in every game in both league and cup matches so far this season.

I would back Plymouth to win here but, given their goal-scoring form, I would certainly back Newport to score. The obvious bet is a Plymouth Argyle win with Both Teams to Score at 3/1.
