League One Peterborough play host to Notts County of League Two in the FA Cup at the ABAX Stadium on Tuesday night.

Having played out a 2-2 draw in the original tie, the two teams will go head-to-head in this second round replay – a contest where the winner will book themselves a valuable third round fixture against runaway Premier League leaders Chelsea.

When the two teams met in this competition the first time around Peterborough seemingly had the tie sewn up after they led 2-0 just 15 minutes in. However, a first half red card and an eventual 94th minute equaliser saw the hosts force the replay. Although Grant McCann’s men will undoubtedly be a bit disappointed that a replay was needed, they are likely to be confident of dispatching their League Two opposition at the second time of asking.

In the betting it is the League One outfit who come into this match as hot favourites. Hardly surprising; however, this doesn’t mean that their isn’t a viable betting opportunity that favours the hosts. At odds of 6/5 and 7/4, ‘Peterborough to Win & Over 2.5 Goals’ and ‘Peterborough to Score Over 2.5 Goals’ both look good bets.

The Posh come into this match off the back of a very pleasing 2-0 win away at Charlton on Saturday so it’s thought that confidence is likely to be high. Which is something that can’t be said for the visitors, who approach this match having failed to win in any of their last six.

In front of their own fans Peterborough have scored plenty of goals in League One this season, scoring at least three goals on five occasions, including when putting five past Chesterfield last time out. With the way Notts County have been defending of late, it’s not hard at all to see them racking up yet more goals in this fixture.

It’s been a pretty poor season for Notts County overall, they’ve struggled both home and away, but matches on the road have been particularly hard for them in recent times. Having lost each of their last four on the road (all-competitions) John Sheridan’s men are without an away win since beating Portsmouth 2-1 back in late October. Aside from their failure to pick up results, the visitors have been conceding goals at an alarming rate, conceding at least twice in each of their last five away from home.

In addition, County have conceded at least three goals away from home on three occasions in League One this season, while they’ve only conceded less than twice in one of their last eight. More than two match goals were scored in all of those eight too.

When the two teams played back at the start of the month, it looked for all to see that Peterborough would run away with it. Ultimately, they failed to do that on that occasion, but this time around, back in front of their own fans, it is fancied that the hosts will have no problem showcasing their superiority.

With a place at Stamford Bridge at stake, the hosts aren’t likely to hold back and, against a poor defensive unit, they could easily run riot.
