Peterborough welcome a struggling Coventry City to the ABAX on Saturday afternoon for a match that provides the hosts with what looks a gilt-edged chance to continue their play-off push.

The season started badly for Coventry and it looks for all to see that it will probably end badly at this rate. The visitors are in a dismal run of form, especially away from home and are offering little in the way of resistance. The way things are going, their effort to stay in the division could be a relatively short-lived one.

Ahead of this match, there are two bets that catch they eye. These are ‘Peterborough to Win’ and ‘Peterborough to Score in Both Halves’.

It would be hard to argue against the fact that Peterborough are one of the better attacking teams in this division, especially at home (tally of 23 home goals can be bettered by just two teams), and they should be more than capable of continuing in the same vein here.

Grant McCann will certainly be disappointed with the way his side failed to hang on for all three points on Boxing Day – 93rd minute equalisers are never easy to take – but he could have hardly wished for a better opportunity than this match against Coventry to put things right.

The visitors really are in bad shape at this moment in time. They haven’t picked up a point since November 1st and are now on a losing run that stretches back six weeks. There may be some optimism surrounding the recent appointment of Russell Slade, but it looks as though the new manager has a very tough job on his hands.

Having lost each of their last six league matches, Coventry, in shipping no less than 16 goals, are seemingly conceding for fun – not exactly what you want when preparing to face one of the best attacking teams in the league. Playing on the road has certainly not be a favourite for the visitors either, their record of 25 goals conceded away from home is the second worst in the division, while their away goal difference of -16 is the joint-worst. Additionally, The Sky Blues are conceding, on average, one of the highest number of shots on target in the division, again not really a stat you want to be boasting before facing a team who’ve found goals easy to come by.

If Coventry are struggling to keep goals out, Peterborough are struggling to stop scoring of late. They’ve scored 12 goals in their last five (all-competitions) and are likely to be full of attacking confidence here. The fact that McCann’s side have generally spread their goals around the course of any given 90 minutes is also a plus – the Northern Irishman has seen his team score either side of half time on six occasions at home this season.

Whichever way you look at this fixture, anything other than a dominant display from the hosts is hard to fancy and it looks as though Coventry’s misery is set to go on.
