The Netherlands to bounce back after opening match defeat
It was a disappointing start for the Dutch team to say the least after losing to Turkey 4-2 in their opening match of the World Cup qualifiers. The Oranje were 3-0 down after 46 minutes, the quickest ever three-goal deficit since 1961 when they were down by Hungary.
This was The Netherlands’ first defeat in four matches as Frank De Boer’s team had three wins two draws and one defeat in the Nations League competition. Franck De Boer has a good team and they are expected to bounce back against Latvia and get their first three points.
The Oranje had 65% of possession in their match against Turkey but couldn’t convert 20 goal attempts to more than two goals. Frank De Boer made changes in the second half and the Dutch team came back to 3-2 but a fourth goal in the dying minutes by the Turks canceled the comeback.
Latvia looking for their first goal against their opponents
Latvia are the only Baltic country to have appeared in a major competition and that was the Euro 2004. They are currently ranked 136 at the FIFA world ranking system and come into this match as the underdogs after losing their opening match of the WCQ against Montenegro.
They finished third in group 1 of Europe’s Nations League competition after winning one of their six matches. They had a good result by beating Austria in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
In their opening match for the current WCQ matches, they went ahead in the match against Montenegro but couldn’t hold their lead as their visitors scored twice after having better ball possession with 60% and 24 goal attempts of which seven were on target.
