Nancy play host to Toulouse in Ligue 1 on Saturday night at Stade Marcel Picot – a fixture that certainly won’t get goal-lovers excited.

In Nancy and Toulouse we’re looking at two teams who’ve found goals very hard to come by of late. Couple this with the ultra-defensive nature of the visiting team when playing on the road, and the prospect of goals in this fixture begins to look very, very slim indeed. On this basis, the bet that catches the eye here is ‘Under 1.5 Goals’ at 17/10.

In recent weeks, goals have been a rare commodity for Nancy. The hosts have failed to score in each of their last four matches, losing each of the last two by a score-line of 1-0. They may have been handed a few thrashings, but given the lacklustre manner in which Toulouse have attacked on the road this season, the hosts don’t need to worry too much about that happening here.

Scoring goals in general has been a problem for Pablo Correa’s men this season. They’ve scored just 18 times, finding the net on just 12 occasions in front of their own fans. This goal drought is probably the main reason as to why Nancy currently find themselves occupying 18th place in Ligue 1. Such a lack of goals doesn’t bode well ahead of a match against Toulouse, who, despite struggling from an attacking perspective themselves, are a strong defensive unit.

The visitors come into this fixture having kept a clean sheet in 31% of their away matches this season, while they’ve conceded just 12 goals. With 54% of their matches on the road seeing less than two goals go in, Toulouse have been involved in more low-scoring away matches than any other side in Ligue 1 this season. Having played 13 matches on the road, Pascal Dupraz’s side have found the back of the opposition net just five time – the lowest total in the division.

Having recorded a pleasing 4-1 victory at home to Bastia, before holding giants PSG to a 0-0 away from home last time out, the visitors are likely to be in good spirits ahead of this one, but they really have failed to match what has been good form at home when playing on the road and another poor forward showing is more than likely.

The fact that Nancy are averaging the lowest number of shots on target per match at home, alongside Toulouse averaging the third-lowest number of shots on target per away match, further supports the notion that these two aren’t likely to play out a goal-filled encounter here.

With the way things have been going for these two of late, a drab affair is expected at Stade Marcel Picot on Saturday night.
