Manchester United to win

In ten league matches under Ralf Rangnick, Man United have won six, including four out of five at home. It is too soon to say Old Trafford is a fortress again, but Rangnick has certainly made the Red Devils more solid.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Manchester United vs Southampton

Man United could only claim a draw away to Burnley on Tuesday night, however, with 22 goal attempts compared to nine for Burnley they were by far the busier team.

United are on a four-game unbeaten streak since a 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves on 3 January – the only league defeat under Rangnick so far – and look to maintain decent form against Southampton.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently turned 37 years old, was on the bench against Burnley, it remains to be seen whether this was just a rest before a busy period or a more long-term plan. Ronaldo is priced at 2.0 to score anytime.

A win here will move United back into the top four with West Ham to play on Sunday.

On Wednesday night, Southampton came away with a dramatic 3-2 away win over Spurs. The Saints went behind twice before an 82nd minute goal from Che Adams gave Southampton the lead.

Spurs’ Steven Bergwijn thought he was the injury time hero again just like at Leicester almost a month ago. However, his goal was disallowed for offside, and Southampton held on for the win.

The Saints had a poor 2021 away from home, however, since Christmas they have recorded two away wins (both 3-2 wins), so can’t be fully written off. A 3-2 Southampton win is priced at 56.0 and might be worth a small bet.

One of our main predictions is that it will be a draw at half-time with Man United going on to win at full-time. If, however, you want to play it safe, then just backing the draw at half-time is priced at 2.25.

Alex Telles and Fred have recently had Covid. Telles should recover in time for this match to challenge former Saint Luke Shaw for the left back spot. Eric Bailly is the only injury concern for the Red Devils.

Valentino Livramento was not risked for the win over Spurs, however, he could claim his place back in the Southampton starting line-up.
