Unlike in recent years, these days Manchester United v Leicester City looks like a tantalising prospect and we should be in for an exciting match as both teams look to chase a top four spot with victory in this match.

United recovered from three straight defeats by beating League One Northampton Town in the League Cup on Wednesday night and even then it was hardly a convincing performance by Jose Mourinho’s side. The former Chelsea boss has already publicly called out some of his players for showing a poor attitude and rumours are that a number of his squad have received private dressing downs in the manager’s office.

With arch rival Pep Guardiola continuing his sublime start to life at Manchester’s other club, many are questioning the methods of the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’. The former Chelsea manager has rarely faced this kind of criticism in his career and it will be interesting to see what he does to halt United’s slide.

Part of the problem has been record signing Paul Pogba and the expectation placed on his young shoulders. Having arrived for a world record fee of £89m, it is fair enough for United fans to expect a bit more from the player who was brought through their own academy. However, since resigning from Juventus he has failed to click and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher described his first half performance in the Manchester derby as ‘one of the most ill-disciplined performances you will ever see’ as the Frenchman was seen wandering all over the pitch, causing United to lose any sort of shape they had in midfield.

Michael Carrick’s decent performance against Northampton affirmed calls from many United fans that the one-time England international should partner Pogba in order to get the best out of him.

Perhaps the only real positive to come out of Old Trafford in the last couple of weeks has been the form of Marcus Rashford. The 18-year-old scored in United’s Premier League defeat to Watford before netting twice in the midweek cup victory. Despite his tender age, Mourinho can surely no longer afford to ignore him?

After an uninspiring start to their Premier League title defence, Leicester City have picked up in recent matches. New signing Islam Slimani has taken a lot of the burden off Jamie Vardy and looks a real force. With a forward line which has plenty of good options, you can usually expect a Leicester goal in any match they play – and that includes at Old Trafford this weekend.

The only concern for the Foxes is the defence where, beyond the usual back four of Fuchs, Simpson, Huth and Morgan there is a real lack of options. Of course those players make a perfect defensive unit and, fortunately for Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri, they are all fit for the clash at Manchester United.

As previously mentioned this match should be a great spectacle with both sides full of attacking talent. A few weeks ago I would have backed United all day, but, given their recent decline along with Leicester City’s upturn in fortunes, I find this match hard to predict.

As both United and Leicester have good attacking options and vulnerable defences I think we should see both teams score in this match.

I also like the look of the goalscorer double market here and would certainly back both Marcus Rashford and Islam Slimani to score anytime at a very nice 13/2. These two strikers are in sensational form at the moment and will be brimming with confidence – both should fancy their chances of finding the back of the net this weekend and it would be no surprise if they did.
