Man City’s 1-1 draw away to Southampton in their last league match should be seen as a mere blip with them having won 12 games in a row previously.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Manchester City vs Brentford

Man City’s draw against Southampton on 22 January gave Liverpool a faint glimmer of hope, however, the Cityzens are more than capable of going on another 12-game winning run and shutting the door firmly on the Reds’ title hopes.

City got back to winning ways in the FA Cup, defeating runaway Championship leaders Fulham 4-1 with a strong line-up.

It remains to be seen whether boss, Pep Guardiola rotates his side with the Premier League match against Norwich on the weekend, followed by the return of the Champions League next Tuesday.

Either way the Cityzens should be capable of inflicting further misery to a Brentford side who have lost four Premier League games in a row and five in all competitions.

Brentford could take solace in the fact that when these two sides met recently in the Premier League, City only defeated them 1-0 thanks to an early Phil Foden goal. He can be backed to repeat his heroics at 5.0 to score first.

However, after rebounding from that loss with a 2-1 win at home to Aston Villa, the Bees have lost four straight conceding 12 goals during that run while scoring just three.

Although he is unlikely to play as he builds his fitness, the signing of Danish star Christian Eriksen will be a massive morale boost to Brentford and with Man City dropping points last time out, the Bees will be hopeful of lightning striking twice.

Gabriel Jesus is a doubt after his return from international duty. Apart from that there are no major concerns. Rodri, Ederson, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte all were rested for the FA Cup win over Fulham. Most if not all could be in line for a return to the starting eleven.

Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa could return after spells out due to Covid-19. Julian Jeanvier, Zanka and Tariqe Fosu-Henry will miss out, the game will likely be too soon for Eriksen to make his debut as he continues to build his fitness up.
