The Champions League group stages are drawing to a gradual close and one of the penultimate matches in Group G sees top of the table and already qualified Leicester City take on bottom of the table and pointless Club Brugge.

The Foxes have been a strange animal this season, terrible in the league but fantastic in their debut Champions League campaign. Of course many will point to the fact that this is one of the weakest groups in Champions League history, however, Leicester have stuck to their task and comfortably beaten what has been put in front of them.

Remarkably, Claudio Ranieri’s team are still yet to concede in Europe this season. Their solid defence of course was the basis of their title win last season.

Unfortunately, Leicester look some way off the pace in the Premier League and they will almost certainly (careful with my words here after last year!) not defend their title crown this season. There is no doubt that the Foxes are focusing on the Champions League this season and are enjoying the ride.

This focus on European football is demonstrated by the fact that they have lost every single Premier League match that has preceded a Champions League game.

Home form is undoubtedly Leicester’s strong point. They are still yet to pick up a Premier League win on the road this season and are only as high as 14th thanks to their form at the King Power. Who knows where they would be if they were as poor at home as they are away.

In regards to this match, they will feel very confident going up against bottom-of-the-group Brugge at home. A win against one of the worst teams in the competition will see them qualify as top seeds so they should be able to do a job here. Additionally, prior to their recent home defeat against West Bromwich Albion, Leicester had not lost at home since September 2015. No matter what is going on elsewhere, the King Power is a sanctuary for the Foxes.

Club Brugge are statistically the second worse team in the Champions League (only Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb have a worse record) and are yet to pick up a single point in Group A despite four attempts.

Things have also been going pretty badly in the Belgian league with Brugge currently fourth and six points from top spot – which they claimed last season. However, Michel Preud’homme’s team have picked up a bit in recent weeks and are on a five match unbeaten streak in the league.

Having said that, whilst they may be improving in Belgium, they show no signs of improving in Europe and look completely out of their depth at the elite level. The Belgian side must win this match against Leicester to have any chance of even making the Europa League and quite frankly I cannot see this happening.

The obvious result here is a Leicester win but of course punters are priced out of this market. However, the ‘Leicester to Win to Nil’ selection is incredibly attractive at 11/8. I am immensely surprised that the price is this good and would certainly encourage people to take advantage.

Leicester are yet to concede a goal in the Champions League whilst Brugge have scored just the one goal in the entire competition and even that was on home turf. Perhaps the bookies feel that Leicester’s relatively poor Premier League form will put punters off, however, I urge you not to worry yourself with it. Ranieri’s team are no doubt the better side and they will almost certainly keep a clean sheet against this inept Brugge attack.

The other tip I have gone for is ‘Leicester to Win by Two or More Goals’ at Evens. As previously mentioned, Leicester are much the better side and I am expecting a very comfortable win for the home side. The Foxes have thrived in Europe this season and are fancied to notch a few goals again.
