Two of La Liga’s struggling sides go head-to-head at Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Sunday afternoon as both are in desperate need of a result, even more so considering they’re facing a fellow relegation candidate.

Of the two teams, it’s probably fair to say that Leganés will be happier with the way things have gone. They may be hovering directly above the drop-zone, but the newly promoted side have managed to put five points between them and their opposition here. With this in mind, this really is a must win game for Gijón. Fortunately for the visitors, they’ve started to perform a bit better of late and could quite easily take the points here.

In the betting, even though they’re at home and in the better league position, Leganés seem somewhat short at 5/6. Neither of these two teams have exactly thrived of late, but it is Gijón who’ve looked better going forward and the visitors might just be able to surprise a few here. At odds of 5/2, ‘Gijón Draw No Bet’ is worth chancing.

Under new manager Rubi, Gijón made a decent start when securing both a point and a clean sheet away to Betis, and they certainly weren’t disgraced when going down 2-1 away at Bilbao either. They may have lost (4-2) in what was a bit of a freak game against Alavés last time out, but at least they continued to offer an attacking threat. Against a home side who haven’t offered much in front of goal for some time, Gijón’s ability to score a few goals could be the difference here.

No one has scored less goals at home than Leganés, so if the visitors can continue to go forward with intent then there’s every chance that they can get something out of this match.

On the road, the visiting side have conceded just one goal (in two matches) under new manager Rubi and they’ve certainly looked a fair bit sturdier in both of those outings. At the other end, although they haven’t exactly scored with regularity, they have the players (Duje Čop, Xavi Torres and Moi Gómez certainly provide enough creativity) to cause a team like Leganés plenty of problems.

When these two teams get down to it on Sunday afternoon, it could be a case of who can outscore the other and, if that’s the case, Gijón are fancied to have more about them in the final third.

Overall, the hosts simply look overpriced and certainly don’t warrant odds-on favouritism here. Backing Gijón on the ‘Draw No Bet’ market provides punters with both value and a very reasonable chance of collecting.
