The Jesse Marsch-era started with a narrow defeat at Leicester last weekend, though Leeds deserved far more from the game after a spirited performance. We’re tipping Leeds to go one better at Elland Road on Thursday and with energy from the home crowd to harness, the Yorkshiremen can claim at least a share of the spoils against a Villa side that dropped points in six of their last nine league assignments.

Leeds and Aston Villa drew 3-3 in a gripping contest when the teams last met in February and the goals could flow again in Thursday’s rematch. Leeds mustered 18 attempts without success against Leicester, though the same shot total should yield better results against Villa. Five of Leeds’ last six league contests produced over 2.5 goals and we expect this week’s clash to follow suit.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Leeds vs Aston Villa

Leeds lost for the fifth time on the bounce in Jesse Marsch ’s first game at the helm on Saturday, though there were numerous positives to take from an otherwise impressive showing at Leicester.

Despite falling to a 1-0 defeat, Leicester racked up 18 attempts to the Foxes’ seven and only some weak finishing and goalkeeping heroics from Kasper Schmeichel prevented Leeds from taking at least a point at the King Power Stadium.

Marsch was unable to call upon star striker Patrick Bamford at Leicester, though the centre-forward should be fit enough to start against Aston Villa. The 28-year-old has played just six times in the league this term following an injury-ravaged spell and his inclusion this week could make all the difference.

Aston Villa warmed up for their trip to Elland Road by producing one of their finest displays of the campaign so far against Southampton. The Villains slammed four goals past the shellshocked Saints on an afternoon when Danny Ings tormented his old employers.

Villa have now won twice on the spin for only the second time in the Premier League since Steven Gerrard’s appointment, though they could find it tough to complete a hattrick of victories at Leeds’ expense on Thursday.
