This Europa League tie is an all-Belgian affair and a commentator’s nightmare as KAA Gent take on KRC Genk.

Gent managed to get the better of Tottenham in the previous round, despite many thinking they would not be able to hold on to their first leg lead. In addition to this impressive victory, Gent have also been on a good run in the Belgian league with no losses in their last three. Unfortunately for them though, they are still down in 7th.

The Buffalo’s do have one of the better defensive records in the Belgian top flight with an average of just one goal conceded per game. However, they have only kept one clean sheet in their last seven games in all competitions. They are also decent going forward and have found the back of the net in all but one of their last eight matches, scoring eight in their last three in all competitions.

Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s team have been very good at home this season, as we saw in their win against Tottenham, and have taken 34 points from 14 league matches at the Ghelamco Arena. Furthermore, they have won four of their last five on home soil in all competitions.

Genk had the easier tie of these two Belgian sides in the Europa League first knockout round but still did well to get past Romanian side Astra 3-2 on aggregate. Overall, they are in decent form with 14 points taken from their last eight league games. However, they are still way down in 8th – one place behind Gent.

Going forward has been a bit of a problem for Albert Stuivenberg’s side so far this campaign and they only have the tenth-best goal-scoring record with 36 in 29 league games. Furthermore, they have only scored three times in their last three matches. They have improved at the back recently though and have kept four clean sheets in the last month.

Blauw-Wit are pretty dreadful away from home and have only accumulated 12 points from 14 matches on their travels whilst they have also won once in their last five away matches in all competitions.

Gent are the favourites here and rightly so, especially given the fact they have won 11 of their last 16 home games against Genk. With the Buffalo’s good going forward, it’s easy to see them scoring a couple of goals in building a first-leg lead and, therefore, i’ll be getting on ‘Gent to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ at 7/5.
