Top-3 Predictions for Japan vs China
Bookmaker Ratings prediction one: Japan win and under 3.5 goals – 1.80
Bookmaker Ratings prediction two: Japan to score two or three goals – 1.89
Bookmaker Ratings prediction three: Japan -1.5 Goals Handicap – 1.68
Japan Win and Under 3.5 Goals
Despite being second in Group B with 12 points, Japan’s World Cup qualifying matches saw very few goals. To illustrate, in six matches played so far, only once three goals were scored. The Blue Samurai have been struggling against compact defenses and we think that will be the case against China as well.
Japan To Score Two or Three Goal
Playing their third game at home, and despite scoring just five goals in six matches so far in the final stage of the qualifiers, we think Japan are capable of scoring at least two goals in this match. In the previous six h2h meetings, Japan scored two or more goals on five occasions.
Japan -1.5 Goals Handicap
Japan will have a very offensive-minded approach to this game and we expect them to register their first two-goals win in these qualifiers. They did win by 1-0 in China in the opposite fixture and playing in front of their fans will give them the needed edge to improve their goal-scoring record.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Japan vs China
After a relatively slow start at the beginning of the qualifiers when they lost two of their first three games, Japan won their next three outings and clinched the all-important second position. Only the first two placed teams gain automatic qualification to Qatar 2022 as the Blue Samurais are looking for their seventh consecutive appearance in the World Cup.
Coach Hajime Moriyasu has to find the solutions for his team’s lack of goalscoring. In their last match against Oman, the Blue Samurais had 14 goal attempts of which four were on target. Japan play a possession game, however, they need to speed up their play against teams who play at the back with nine players.
Japan have won the last three h2h matches with China and they all have been very close matches. Nonetheless, experience in crucial matches will be key to determining the winner of this match as Japan definitely have it.
China have five points from six games in this third stage qualifier. They lost three of their last four away games beating only lowly Guam in that run. They have conceded on average two goals in their last four away matches and will be difficult to improve that rate in Saitama.
Safe Bet
Japan have conceded three goals in six matches and have two clean sheets in their last two matches. Moreover, the Blue Samurais’ recent three-match winning streak makes them a good contender to win this match without conceding a goal. Hence with odds of 1.65, we think backing Japan to win and both teams not to score in this match is an obvious option.
Japan vs China first goalscorer
Playing his club football in Belgium for Genk, Junya Ito is in great form with his club scoring in three of his last five matches. With the Japan national team, Ito scored in his last match against Oman and led his team to win 1-0. We predict Junya Ito will open the goalscoring in this match.
Japan vs China Team News
Defenders Tomiyasu of Arsenal and Yoshida of Sampdoria are both injured and may not play on Thursday. However, coach Moriyasu will be more concerned about striker Furuhashi who will also miss the match due to injury. Celtic’s Maeda who scored on his debut against Hibs was called up to strengthen Japan’s attack.
On the other side, coach Xiaopeng Li has a fully fit squad to select from for this match. The Chinese squad includes four naturalized players defender Browning midfielder Elkeson and strikers Aloisio and Alan. Li will surely field the same lineup as he did against Australia and drew 1-1 in China’s best result of the qualifiers so far.
