Hungary v Portugal: Thomas Giles’ betting tip
Although I predicted the opposite in my Group F preview, Hungary have already qualified for the last 16 as they are guaranteed at least a best third placed team qualification spot thanks to results in other groups.
Portugal on the other hand are sitting in a precarious position needing a win to guarantee qualification for the knockout rounds. Fernando Santos’ side rely heavily on talisman Cristiano Ronaldo but so far that has failed to bear fruit. However, they will once again look for the Real Madrid man to pull them out of the mire.
Hungary are on decent form and will be looking to qualify as group winners to ensure a decent draw in the next round. Portugal on the other hand look like an incredibly average team when Ronaldo is not on form and that seems to be the case with the 31-year-old looking frustrated in all 180 minutes he has played so far at Euro 2016. Another solid defensive performance from the Hungarians is only likely to increase his levels of frustration.
The Portuguese are the clear favourites at 4/9 but I have a feeling the Magyars will frustrate them and pull off a shock win at 8/1.
