Germany favorites to win their group

After 15 years in charge of Die Mannschaft, Joachim Low will leave his job after this summer’s European championship. Germany have not lost a World Cup qualifying match in 33 matches dating back to 2001.

They struggled under Low in recent years though as they were eliminated from the first round in World Cup 2018 in Russia. They suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Spain in their last official match in the UEFA Nations League.

In the last match where they lost to Spain 6-0, Germany had their worst match in years. The Spanish team scored three goals in each half and had 22 goal attempts. The Germans had zero shots on goal

Iceland looking for improvement

Iceland are chasing a second consecutive World Cup appearance. They have a new manager in Arnar Vidarsson in place of Erik Hamren. Iceland couldn’t compete with England Belgium and Denmark in the Nations League as the Icelanders lost all of their six matches and got relegated to League B.

Iceland haven’t played Germany in 18 years. They visit Germany after a very bad spell. Our Boys need to be at their very best to avoid a tough night. Conceding 18 goals in six matches is not a good defensive record. Coach Vidarsson must keep his defense tight and solid.

Key stats

  • Germany have won their last two home matches
  • Germany have scored in their last five home matches
  • Iceland have lost their last four away matches
  • Iceland have scored in three of their four away games

Germany vs Iceland Prediction

Joachim Low will do his best to leave his job with good results, and to start with he has a chance to bounce back from that Spain defeat against Iceland. The Germans are clear favorites to win with odds of 1.11.

Germany have a very strong attack with players like Gnabry Werner and Sane. They have scored 11 goals in five matches and will make sure they have a great start in the WCQ.

We predict Germany win and 4 or more goals in the match.
