Germany U21 v Czech Republic U21 Betting Tips: Shortage of goals unlikely at Stadion Miejski Tychach

17:00/Jun 18

Sports betting writer Bradley Gibbs gives his predictions for Sunday’s under-21 fixture between Germany and Czech Republic.

On Sunday evening, Germany, who last won this competition back in 2009 when the likes of Manuel Neuer, Mesut Özil and Sami Khedira were all key figures at under-21 level, kick-off their tournament against the Czech Republic. On paper, this may look like something of a banker for the Germans; however, the Czech’s have previously thrived at youth level and, after a promising qualification campaign, will be confident of making their presence felt in Poland this summer.

The Germans are unsurprisingly the favourites ahead of this match but the Czech’s really shouldn’t be underestimated; Vítězslav Lavička’s men come into this tournament in good form and could easily get competitive in this fixture. The bet that catches the eye is ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ at 11/8.

Having scored 64 goals between them during qualifying, it’s probably safe to say that this pair both enjoy getting forward and have more than enough firepower to score goals. On Sunday evening, they’re fancied to do just that against each other.

Germany come into this tournament armed with players such as the pacey Serge Gnabry – a player who has recently earned himself a move to German giants Bayern Munich and who has a hat-trick at senior international to his name – as well as the trio of Maximilian’s in Meyer, Arnold and Philipp, players who all featured prominently in the Bundesliga last season. Add in Dortmund’s Mahmoud Dahoud and Hertha’s Davie Selke, who scored seven goals in qualifying, and it’s easy to see where the goals are going to come from.

Having the players is one thing, but putting the performances, and more importantly scoring goals, is another thing altogether. Fortunately, this young German side rarely struggle when it comes to finding the net having scored in eight of their last ten, while they also found the net at least once in all ten of their qualifying matches.

The Czech’s, who scored an impressive 29 goals during qualifying, are also adept at hurting their opposition and come into this match in fine goal-scoring form. Having notched nine goals in their last four matches, Vítězslav Lavička has witnessed his side play some excellent attacking football and is likely to be delighted with the way things have shaped up ahead of this major event.

Compared to the Germans, this Czech side might not boast as many well known players but that is not to say that the quality isn’t there. In Ajax’s Václav Černý and Udinese’s Jakub Jankto, the Czech’s have two attacking midfielders who’re capable of providing both goals and assists while at the head of affairs they have one the most sought after young strikers in European football. 21-year-old Patrik Schick was a big player for Sampdoria last season and, having scored ten goals in nine games during qualifying, looks nailed on to sign for Italian giants Juventus in the near future. The forward has been earmarked by many an expert as one of the players to watch at this tournament and is likely to cause opposition back-lines numerous problems.

In recent times, low-scoring games have been something of a rarity for this Czech Republic under-21 team with nine of their last ten fixtures seeing ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ land. On top of this, both teams have scored in seven of their last ten.

When these two attacking outfits go head-to-head in the first round of fixtures, it would be something of a surprise if both fans and punters alike didn’t witness a number of goals and so ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ is a bet that is hard to get away from.
