Solid at the back Georgia, need attacking improvement
After losing their opening match of the group away to Sweden 1-0, Georgia enter the match against Spain with the confidence that they don’t lose with big margins. In their last 14 matches, they conceded twice in a game just four times.
If we look at their statistics in their match against Sweden we can see that they shared with their hosts the possession of the ball with 49% and coach Willy Sagnol’s team showed how solid they are at the back allowing the Swedes just four shots on goal in 90 minutes.
Sagnol has to fix his team’s goal-scoring efficiency though. The Crusaders have scored only three goals in their last six matches and scored twice in a match on just one occasion in nine matches.
Disappointed Spain looking for a comeback
Coach Luis Enrique is building a team for the future mixed with experienced players, The likes of Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia, Rodri and Olmo are all under 24 years old and were in the starting line-up against Greece. Enrique is insisting to give these young players their chance to shine
Spain are not winning many matches lately with just one win in their last five matches. That one win was the thrashing of four-time world champions Germany. In that match, 21-year-old Torres had a Hattrick justifying his coach’s confidence in him.
In the match against Greece, Spain were completely dominant having 77% of ball possession and 867 completed passes. Their impatience and urgency were seen in front of the goal though as they had just two shots on goal from nine attempts.
Key Stats

- Spain are unbeaten in 64 WCQ matches
- Spain have scored 14 goals in the last five away WCQ games
Georgia vs Spain Prediction
It hasn’t been a good start for both of these teams in their first match. After losing two crucial points at home, Spain will go all out to secure a big win and three points.
Luis Enrique’s team need to be patient though as Georgia have a very solid defending system that might frustrate the Spanish team as they had been against Greece.
As always the case is with this kind of matchup the bookies are paying very low for a Spain win. We will look at the match goal market.
Keeping in mind that Spain are having trouble scoring against teams who play solid and compact defense, we will back the lowest goals scored market that pays the best. In this case over 2.5 at 1.61 seems reasonable.
