Gael Monfils looking in good form
Six wins and two defeats since the US Open show that Gael Monfils is in good form. In fact, during the hardcourt season after the Olympics, Monfils won at least two matches in all tournaments he played. Obviously playing at his favorite surface, the 35-year-old Frenchman looks the most comfortable on this surface.
Notably, Monfils’s best result was reaching the final in Sofia earlier this month. During his first match against Gianluca Mager, Monfils hit 23 winners and beat the Italian in straight sets. Moreover, the Frenchman had a very good fort serve winning 23 of 28 points.
Monfils Key Stats
- During this season, Monfils played on average 25.9 games per match on hard courts
- Monfils is on an 18-10 win/loss record on hardcourts
- The Frenchman won 75% of the points on his first serve on hardcourts this season

Kevin Andersen looking to maintain his good form of this week
It is not a good season on hardcourts for Kevin Andersen, to say the least. To illustrate, just three wins in 14 matches show that the South African is way behind the form he once was. Incidentally, Andersen’s best result here was reaching the quarter-finals o three occasions.
However, in his first two matches at Indian Wells, Anderson beat Jordan Thompson and Lorenzo Sonego. Notably, Sonego is world number 21, and to beat him in straight sets (7-6, 7-6) must give the 35-year-old some confidence boost.
Andersen Key Stats
- The South African played on average 26.2 games per match on hardcourts this season
- Andersen won 79% of the points on his first serve
- The 35-year-old won just 27% of his matches on hardcourts this season
Gael Monfils vs Kevin Andersen Prediction
Markedly Gael Monfils leads the all-time h2h meetings with Kevin Andersen 5-1. Moreover, the Frenchman is on much better form than the South African on hardcourts this season.
To explain more, and technically speaking, Monfils’s flat forehand is a very tough weapon to handle. Especially on hard courts as it slides away. Since Andersen played two players who don’t possess such forehands, he needs to adjust quickly during the match.
Considering all these aspects, Monfils is the favorite to win with the bookies. Unless he doesn’t lose his focus as he does usually, we think the Frenchman can come on top. But with the odds being low for a Monfils win at 1.47, we will back the match to have big number of games.
