Ferencvaros v Partizani Tirana – Thomas Giles’ betting tip
This second round of Champions League qualifiers has certainly been good for the underdog as we have seen these so-called lesser teams pull off some amazing results – none more so than Lincoln Red Imps’ 1-0 victory over Celtic. This fixture also saw the unfancied Partizani from Tirana in Albania record a valuable draw at home to their Hungarian opponents.
As I mentioned in my last tip, Ferencvaros are the Hungarian champions and have some good players (although midfielder Adam Nagy has now departed for Bologna). They will have been shocked by their disappointing draw against Partizani in a game they should have won convincingly. Expect them to turn the screw in this second leg.
Despite the fact that Partizani secured a draw in the first leg, they will need a win in Hungary to secure their place in the next round. I think the previous fixture will have taken a lot of energy out of the Albanians and it should show here.
There is no value in backing a straight Ferencvaros win. So with this in mind, I have gone with the Hungarians to win to nil at 9/10. Ferencvaros know that they are through if they keep a clean sheet and I imagine they will also back that up with a win. With the Hungarian champions being the more experienced and talented side, as well as being at home, they should have more than enough to come through this one unscathed.
