Behind Leicester City and their great form in Champions League Group G, we have a good battle for second place hotting up between FC Copenhagen and FC Porto. This match will more than likely be the decider for that second qualification spot.

Copenhagen are currently third in the group but have actually done pretty well having lost just the once and even that was just a narrow defeat away at in-form Leicester City.

Even though they are currently only in the Europa League spots, you could argue that they have done better than Porto as they have scored five to Porto’s four and conceded just two to Porto’s three. Additionally, the Danish side have had the fortune of playing both of their matches against Leicester City before the final two matches and so have their hardest matches out of the way.

Stale Solbakken’s side are generally exciting to watch as they score a high number of goals. This is demonstrated in their last five Superliga games where they have not failed to score more than once on any occasion. Unsurprisingly the Danish champions are once again top of their league by a nine point margin after 17 matches and are still yet to lose.

The Lions are in tremendous form in all competitions right now and are yet to lose in any competition since their defeat against Leicester over a month ago. The pressure may be on them to win this match against Porto but they also know that a win will see them in pole position to clinch the second qualification spot with just a fixture against group whipping boys Club Brugge to go.

Although Former Champions League winners Porto are two points ahead of Copenhagen in Group G, they know a draw against Copenhagen on Tuesday may not be enough when it comes to the final standings given they have to host group leaders and likely winners Leicester City in the final round of fixtures.

They do know though that a draw will cement passage to the knockout rounds.

Whilst they do sit second, it has not been plain sailing and it is fair to say they only just edged passed bottom side Club Brugge in the last two fixtures with slight 2-1 and 1-0 wins respectively. They now have to face the two better sides of the group in a less than confident frame of mind.

Domestically things have not been plain sailing either with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side currently second in the Portuguese league, languishing a large five points behind title rivals Benfica after ten matches. Indeed their last league match was against Benfica at home in which they could only manage a draw. The title looks a long way off for Porto this year.

Additionally, they are not on the greatest run of form recently in all competitions and have not won two consecutive matches for over a month. Furthermore, their away form is pretty poor. They could only manage a draw away at midtable Vitoria Setubal before losing to another average side, GD Chaves, on penalties in the cup.

As previously mentioned, whilst some may see Porto as a grand club in Europe, they may find it incredibly difficult in Copenhagen on Tuesday.

I have been very impressed with Copenhagen all season as they have shown they can compete at the elite level whilst still playing good football and it would not surprise me one bit if they won here. The Danes managed to snatch a draw in Portugal in the previous meeting and I think they will go one better here. The odds are favourable towards the punters here at 11/5.

I also think the goals market is worth looking at ahead of this fixture. Whenever Copenhagen play there tends to be goals and that stretches to both sides in the Champions League.

Both teams scored in the last meeting as it finished 1-1 and I think we will see a repeat here so will definitely be on ‘Both Teams to Score’ at 11/10.

Finally, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’, at 7/5, is another bet worth being on. This bet would have won in five out of Copenhagen’s last six games and in three of Porto’s last five on the road. We should see plenty of attacking from both sides and thus goals is a likely outcome in this fixture.
