A.F.C. Wimbledon – Accrington Stanley – Thomas Giles prediction
Two of England’s most famous ‘smaller’ clubs go head-to-head in this League Two playoff clash. Both of these sides were ensured of a playoff place with a game to spare, however, Accrington, who operate on the smallest budget in the league, could have won automatic promotion on the last day. Unfortunately for John Coleman, the season went down to the wire and a last minute Bristol Rovers winner confined Accrington to the playoffs.
Wimbledon won five matches in a row in April which pretty much confirmed a playoff finish and they rounded off their season with a good 1-0 win at Newport County.
People say that Accrington will fail in their playoff campaign due to the heartbreaking end of their regular season. However, they were incredible unlucky not to beat Stevenage in their last game, which would have sealed promotion, as they rattled the bar on several occasions. Accrington go into this match in decent form and they have not lost since the 8th of March (12 games).
Neither Wimbledon or Accrington concede many and it will be a tight game with few goals. However, I expect Stanley to come out on top.
William Hill have an offer of Accrington to win and under 2.5 goals in the match.
