These two teams are expected to challenge for the Europa League spots this season, but so far it is only Everton that have fulfilled expectations with West Ham United languishing near the relegation zone. However, a recent upturn in form could see them quickly climb the table.

Everton had an impressive run of results across August and September with 13 points taken from a possible 18. Unfortunately things have taken a downturn since then and Ronald Koeman’s side are yet to taste victory in their last four matches with a surprise loss away at Burnley their latest bad result.

Although results in general have been poor in the last few matches, their record at Goodison Park is still impressive and they are yet to lose on home turf this season – conceding just three goals in the process. A confidence booster for this weekend’s match against West Ham.

In Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams Everton have arguably the strongest central defensive pairing in the entire division which really shows in the fact the Toffees have the joint second-best defensive record in the league with just eight goals conceded.

Compared to the rest of the league, Koeman’s side actually score a decent amount of goals but when you put their total of 13 up against the top Premier League sides, it does not look so great. They are heavily reliant on Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku to get them on the score-sheet.

After looking like a defensive shambles for the opening weeks of the season, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has done an excellent job in turning his team’s fortunes around with his team going three without loss of which two were victories to nil.

After fan violence stole the headlines after their League Cup victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night, it will be a relief to the club that the focus this weekend will not be on the chaotic organisation at the London Stadium.

Despite their most recent away victory at Crystal Palace, it is still important to remember that the Hammers have actually lost their other three away matches this season, conceding at least two in each match.

Of course that victory against their London rivals will have boosted their confidence on the road, but going up against a side undefeated at home is another issue.

The Hammers rely heavily on attacking midfielder Dmitri Payet to create something out of nothing in order to get them out of sticky situations. Whilst he of course does have the talent to do this, this weekend he will be up against former Aston Villa midfielders Idrissa Gueye and Gareth Barry who have formed a formidable defensive midfield partnership this season. I do not think Payet will have the time and space against these two that he is usually given by other teams.

I cannot see passed an Everton win on Sunday afternoon and luckily for punters there is generally good value for money on related markets.

Firstly, the William Hill combination of ‘Romelu Lukaku to Score & Everton to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1’, at 6/1, is well worth a go. Lukaku is Everton’s key and without him they would really struggle in forward areas. The former Chelsea man has made an impressive start to the season with six goals in eight games and I expect him to continue this form against a West Ham side who can be a bit vulnerable at the back – especially on the road.

Whilst I expect Everton to win, I do not think it will be a thrashing as West Ham have done well in recent weeks and are not the same chaotic team of three weeks ago. The score lines offered in the above bet sound appropriate and it gives you great flexibility at an excellent price.
