England up against tougher opposition
The Three Lions face their first real test in their quest to qualify for World Cup Qatar 2022 for the 16th time in their history. It shouldn’t be a difficult task for coach Gareth Southgate’s team as they are the favorites to win the group with teams ranked much lower than them.
Many young English players are emerging from the Premier League and Southgate is giving them the chance to prove themselves with the national team. Mason Mount is one of those talents. The 22-year-old was given a spot in the starting 11 and he didn’t disappoint, scoring one of the two England goals against Albania.
England have won their last three games with clean sheets but to teams who are not close to Poland’s strength. Southgate will hope to extend their 23-game unbeaten run in the World Cup qualifiers and a 16-game unbeaten streak against Poland.
Poland with a tough away trip
The Poles will miss their captain and star forward Robert Lewandowski for this crucial away game due to a knee injury. Coach Paolo Sousa may have some concerns on his defensive line as the Poles have conceded 7 goals in their three matches prior to the Andorra game.
It is Poland’s away form that has to raise questions for coach Sousa with one win in four games. But they can be a threat away from home as they have scored in ten of their last 14 away games. They also scored two or three goals in four of their last six away games.
In the match against Hungary where they drew 3-3, the Poles had to come back from 2-0 down to make it 2-2 and then again when they were 3-2 down and Lewandovski equalized to salvage a point.
Key points
- England have lost one of their last four home games
- England are unbeaten in 24 home matches in WCQ matches
- Poland have one clean sheet in 15 away WCQ matches
- Poland have lost seven of their last 15 away WCQ matches
England vs Poland Prediction
Gareth Southgate will want to come out of this game as the winner and extend their lead in the group. England are favorites to win with an odds of 1.25. It is too low to bet for an England win thus we will back their win with total match goals.
Three or more goals have been scored in three of England’s last five games and three or more goals have been scored in Poland’s last three games. Although this match might be tight we think both teams have attacking-minded systems and are capable of scoring.
