Odds on England to win are so good that actually seem like a mistake. At 10/11 a simple ‘to win bet’ against Russia looks like a gift. Maybe the bookmakers are scared of the history. And what does history say? That England have never won their first game at the Euros, which is quite a feat having played eight times at the competition and having faced many opponents inferior to them. This ninth tournament should be England’s time considering how talented their XI is and how poor Russia’s is in comparison. Additionally, Russia have a lot of injuries going into the tournament.
