These two London sides have vastly different aims this season but are both having poor campaigns so far by their standards with Arsenal struggling to get into the top four whilst Crystal Palace are battling relegation.

Crystal Palace could not follow up their shock win against Premier League leaders Chelsea as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton, putting an end to their fantastic four-match winning streak. Overall, this means that Palace are 16th in the league, three points above the drop-zone with a game in hand. Not safe yet but they should have enough about them to stay up.

As you would expect from a team managed by Sam Allardyce, Palace have been very solid at the back in recent weeks and, before they conceded three against Southampton in midweek, they had only conceded once in their previous four. Along with this very good defensive record, Palace have managed to score a few goals going the other way with Wilfried Zaha in particularly good form at the moment.

The Eagles have taken maximum points from their last two Premier League home matches to put their run of five consecutive home league losses to bed. They may have only won these games narrowly but a win is a win. The clean sheets were of course huge in these wins but Allardyce will still be concerned by the fact they only scored once in each match against relatively poor opposition.

Arsenal finally managed to get a Premier League win under the belt in midweek after taking just one point from a possible nine in their previous three. Their convincing 3-0 win over West Ham United pushed them above Manchester United in the table, however, although they have a game in hand, they are still four points behind Manchester City in fourth. If they finished in 4th, this would be first time Arsenal finished outside the Champions League spots since the 1996/97 season.

The Gunners managed to keep a rather rare clean sheet in their victory over West Ham on Wednesday. Before that, they had conceded eight goals in their last three games. However, going up against a Palace side full of confidence and a fair amount of attacking threat, it will be interesting to see if this Arsenal back-line will hold out.

We all know that Arsene Wenger’s side are scintillating going forward and it is no great surprise that they have scored in every game in all competitions since losing to Southampton in the League Cup back on 30th November 2016. Wenger’s men have only failed to score in one Premier League match this season.

Arsenal have been woeful on their travels recently with four losses in their last five in all competitions. Even that remaining match out of that five was a win against non-league Sutton United in the FA Cup. Furthermore, the Gunners have lost five of their last seven Premier League games away from the Emirates Stadium.

Although they are poor on the road at the moment, Arsenal should be capable of out-scoring this Palace side. That win for Palace against Chelsea was surely just a one off and they showed in midweek that they have now come back down to earth. However, with the Eagles being high on confidence, and Zaha in the mood, you certainly couldn’t rule out the possibility of them getting on the score-sheet. ‘Arsenal to Win & Both Teams To Score’ looks good at 9/4.

A secondary tip is ‘Arsenal to Win & Olivier Giroud to Score Anytime’ at 13/8. The Frenchman scored against West Ham on Wednesday and has a great record against Crystal Palace having found the back of the net four times in seven games against them.
