Carla Suarez Navarro vs Angelique Kerber. Anna Chakvetadze’s prediction
Carla Suarez Navarro left a good impression when winning her last match against Anna-Lena Friedsam, a player who was overestimated a little. I can see now that Navarro is in great form. She now faces another German in Angelique Kerber, who won the WTA Porsche Grand Prix last year. But that was the time when Angelique Kerber was on fire, playing with no mistakes at all. Now it’s a different story; Kerber, after her victory at the Australian Open, can’t seem to find her game. She’s lost some of her mobility and, what is more significant, her overall strengths become less effective on clay courts.
In contrast, Suarez Navarro is in her element when playing on a clay court. The overall record between these two so far reads 3:2 to Kerber, but the last time they faced off in Stuttgart, in 2014, Navarro came out on top. Combine this with that which is mentioned above, and the Spaniard looks a good bet. Angelique Kerber is now far from at her best, and Navarro should be more than capable of pouncing on this.
