Liverpool to win

Liverpool have won their last three league games and last five in all competitions, putting a shaky Christmas period behind them as they attempt to stay in the title race. Burnley have only won one game all season and are rooted at the bottom of the table.

All of Liverpool’s league wins stretching back to a 3-1 victory over Newcastle on 16 December 2021 have come by at least two goals. Liverpool’s 60 goals scored and 19 goals conceded means they outscore the opposition at a rate of over three to one.

Out of Liverpool’s 60 goals scored in the league, 30 have come in the first half and 30 have come in the second half. Liverpool have achieved scoring in both halves in their last three league matches.

Preliminary review and match prediction for Burnley vs Liverpool

Burnley are continuing to earn points with their last three matches all being draws.

The Clarets have drawn 11 of their 20 games played so far. However, draws are no longer good enough with Norwich and Newcastle suddenly hitting decent form.

The saving grace for Burnley is that they hold games in hand over all their relegation rivals. However, their schedule looks less than forgiving from now until the end of the season and they may need to rely on pulling off a few shocks to inch out of danger.

Liverpool have put a shaky Christmas behind them to achieve maximum points since the Christmas period.

Better still they have done this without star duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah as they’ve been absent due to the African Cup of Nations.

Diogo Jota scored both goals on Thursday night’s 2-0 win over Leicester to take his tally to 12 league goals. Only Salah has more goals with 16 so far.

Liverpool will have attacking options aplenty with the return of Mane and Salah, but boss Jurgen Klopp could opt to give one or both extra rest ahead of a tricky Champions League tie against Inter Milan on Wednesday.

Earlier on we tipped Liverpool to score in both halves at 1.91.

If you don’t mind who scores the goals as long as you see one in each half, then a goal simply to be scored in both halves regardless of the team can be backed at 1.7.

Salah and Mane might benefit from some additional rest after AFCON duty and with a busy period coming up.

If so, Diogo Jota will be relied upon once again to come up with the goods. He can be backed at 4.5 to score the first goal just as he did against Leicester.

Maxwel Cornet is a doubt for Burnley after limping off against Manchester United. Ashley Barnes made his first appearance since October and could be another option for boss Sean Dyche.

Mane and Salah are both in contention for starts after returning from the AFCON. Liverpool has options though as Luis Diaz was handed his full Premier League debut against Leicester.

Jordan Henderson remains doubtful after a back injury kept him out of action in midweek.

Portuguese marksman Jota has made a place in the front three his own this season, restricting Roberto Firmino to a bit part role when he has been available.

Not only that but he is keeping up valiantly with his teammate Salah in the race for the Golden Boot, his influence has been key while his usual strike partners have been missing. He will be full of confidence and ready to kick on in the final third of the season.
