Werder Bremen v Freiburg

Having made a poor start to the campaign, Werder Bremen have been rejuvenated of late, despite losing away to Leipzig last time out. Considering Leipzig are one of only three unbeaten sides, there isn’t too much shame in this. Other than that, since recording their first victory at home to Wolfsburg, Bremen have registered a win and a draw.

In Freiburg, the hosts face a side who’ve been poor on the road so far this season and are thus fancied to continue their good home form. At odds of 15/8, ‘Werder Bremen to Win & Over 1.5 Goals’ looks a good bet here, while ‘Werder Bremen to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ is a worthy addition at 11/10.

Freiburg might be sitting nicely in 8th position, but this is exclusively down to their form at home. The visitors away from does not make for good reading and it would be fair to say that they’ve struggled on the road. Having lost each of their four matches away from home, Christian Streich’s team have conceded no fewer than ten times, letting in at least two goals on all four occasions.

Bremen have done well at home recently, recording back-to-back victories against Wolfsburg and Leverkusen – two teams who certainly aren’t the easiest to beat. In doing so the hosts scored twice on both occasions. When it comes to going forward, Bremen have actually looked useful all season. They’ve scored in every match that they’ve played in and have created 38 goal-scoring chances when playing on their own patch (the 8th highest in the division).

In front of their own fans, Bremen are fancied to keep up their good run, while Freiburg’s poor fortune away from home looks set to continue.

Mainz v Ingolstadt

Mainz have made a decent start to the new campaign and you can see why they’re favourites for this match at home; however, Ingolstadt appear to have been overlooked somewhat and thus it’s actually worth opposing the home side in this one.

It would be easy to look at Ingolstadt’s bare results this season and say that they’re in poor form. Well, in reality, they are in bad form, although, if we scratch beneath the surface, it’s not difficult to think that the visitors can acquit themselves well here.

The fixture list hasn’t exactly been kind to Markus Kauczinski’s team at the start of this season. In their first eight matches, they’ve faced six of the current top seven, as well as playing Gladbach away – a tough place to go. Considering this start, Ingolstadt can be forgiven their run of poor results and things are certainly going to get easier in weeks to come.

Mainz are of course inside the top-10 currently and they’re a good side; however, their qualities lie primarily in the forward third and, against a side who’re known to sit and soak up pressure, the hosts could come unstuck.

At odds of 6/4, ‘Ingolstadt Draw No Bet’ is the bet to be on ahead of this one.

The visitors have shown plenty of resilience in each of their away matches so far this season and considering that their last three on the road have been against Köln, Bayern and Gladbach, their results are actually fairly respectable. Not too many teams will stay in the fight with Bayern as Ingolstadt did (1-1 til 50 mins and 2-1 til 85 mins), while their 2-1 and 2-0 losses away at Köln and Gladbach certainly doesn’t paint them in an overly bad light either.

Last season Ingolstadt were known as a team who fight hard and keep things tight at the back. The league table might shown them in a different light this time around, but they remain a team with the same values and, given ample time, this style will come to the fore once again. They’ve simply been unfortunate so far; however, this match against a defensively shaky Mainz represents an excellent opportunity for Ingolstadt, if they can keep the opposition at arms length, to remind the division just what they’re capable of.
